Lotta
My collection is inspired by my grandmother’s time with Lotta Svärd, a volunteer organisation that helped women. During the Second World War, the women volunteers of this organisation supported the war effort by providing assistance and services, while defending women’s independence and rights.
I was particularly struck by the fact that, due to a severe shortage of fabric after the war, Lotta clothing had to be adapted for everyday use. I wanted to incorporate this concept into my own designs, offering modern and playful interpretations of Lotta clothing.
The collection uses surplus and recycled fabrics, and also incorporates traditional craft practices such as rya knotting (used for fur elements), weaving and knitting, which the Lottas practised in their spare time.
