PIÈCE DES VAGUES

A cultural melting water room.

Living on the Côte d’Azur holds a certain allure for those of us from a land afar. For many, it evokes the memories of scorching summer days, shimmering sea, wind-swept beaches, and those bright colour parasols. Through the depictions of the French New Wave directors such as Godard and Rohmer, southern France has been perceived as a place of beauty and excitement, as well as adventure and fantasy.

This romanticised view is further compounded by the parallel fascination European artists have with China, as seen through the lenses of filmmakers like Chris Marker and Antonioni. Chinese gardens, in particular, served as a cultural icon in the minds of those who were intrigued by the country’s mysterious beauty during their first visit.
