The set consists of small pieces of furniture combining the techniques of bending, braiding, rattan and rope binding, made in five days in the studio of François Passolunghi during two workshops supervised by Camille Paillard and Patrick Nadeau, both from the École Camondo. This project was conducted as part of the Atelier Campus, a craftsmanship discovery and awareness programme created in 2018 with the participation of Ingred Bassil, Alexia Botter, Samantha Caffo, Laura Chaudé, Jean-Eudes Gueroult, Louise Levi, Tehina Martin, Olivia Porter, Elioth Puthod, Marina, Zuili, Jihane Taybi, Juliette Droulez.
The exhibition displays the nest boxes made as part of the graduation project (2021) “the henhouse, an extra room” by interior architect and designer Camilo Bernal. “There is a strong link between the nest box and rattan crafts because traditionally the housing created for chickens is a basket. The flexibility of the material ada pts to the body shape of gallinaceous birds. The woven nest box allows both the privacy necessary for egg-laying and the passage of light to observe the animal.” François Passolunghi designs, makes, and renovates unique pieces of antique furniture in the purest tradition of this craft. At the same time, he works on contemporary creations in collaboration with interior architects and designers. He displayed his work at the villa Noailles (Hyères) in 2019 and at Homo Faber in Venice the same year. He is based in Contes in Alpes-Maritimes. The villa Noailles invites two professionals who are members of Hyères’ Parcours des Arts. Kim Anh Le Thi (Un brin c’est tout) and Ludovic Anger (Cannage rempaillage varois) present two approaches to rattan crafts applied to objects and furniture.
