If there is a city in France that, in recent years, has been able to “reinvent itself”, it is definitely Toulon. Several iconic construction sites in the heart of the city undertook a true makeover of some architectural gems of the city, while preserving the beauty, the variety, and the richness of their origins. Between sea and mountain, the city has seen new perspectives, a traffic, new hubs gradually looming, a look outstretched towards the Mediterranean. The IDEAT magazine, which has followed Design Parade Toulon since its creation in 2016, has had this privileged look, because it has been able to shine a light on this heritage “coming out” every year. The photographs we took during each edition of the festival reflect this impressive dynamism : the New Creativity and Knowledge District, new market halls, alterations to the vaulted passages, revitalisation of the squares, the gardens, advent of creative schools… Toulon remains an enthralling playground where we appreciate how, building on culture and youth, the capital of the Var underwent its metamorphosis.
Special thanks to the photographers OlivierAmsellem, Pascale Béroujon and Young-Ah Kim for their loving and curious eye.
