LES BAINS KALVAR : LE SALON DE REPOS

Sarah Kalvar swims in a creamy, libidinous world which she twists into narrative loops then spreads on the walls and bodies, in the bathroom, in the bedroom…

Her project consists in building acontemporary Roman bathhouse, with the help of the architecture studio Duo ZS. This immersive art space will be open to the public and comprise several rooms. In the torrid steam of the Kalvar Baths, bodies strip, spread out, twist, lick the benches, rub themselves against the walls… The fantasy is exhaled in big puffs, spreads through the place, and the freed bulge regains its nobility.

In Toulon, Sarah Kalvar has created a sample of this future hammam: the resting room. It is a soft in-between room, where you can refresh after the baths. A place of passage where you can chat, lie down, and drink a few concoctions. All over the walls, the floor and the benches, a council of wise faces escort you with their eyes. Amongst these sculptures, you get a makeover. You let yourself infuse into a space populated by beings from a timeless underground world, who make up the flesh of the patterns forging our subconscious.
