Marvin M’toumo presents an exhibition of dresses, jewellery, accessories, and photographs, all stemming from his obsession with the figure of the bird.
The former winner of the Chloé 2020 Prize at the Fashion Festival, also a poet and director, presents a succession of sketches in which each of his dresses is a unique bird character. “Le cocorico”
(the cock-a-doodle-do), “le chapeau cygne” (the swan hat) and “l’oiseau noir” (the black bird) are all presented at the Château Saint-Pierre which turned into a small theatre for the occasion.
This wardrobe-bestiary, originally born from the encounter of fashion and stage costume expertise, is made up of a variety of creature objects, all of which are both fashion accessories and poetic costumes.
The Oiseau wardrobe consists mainly of feather and eggshell outfits that were originally designed to be worn on stage by dancers and actresses. For the duration of the exhibition, the bird dresses, usually worn on the moving body, are stopped in flight to become still lifes that the audience can at last gaze upon.
The ostrich feather basque no longer twirls.
The egg earrings have shattered.
The Cocorico dress has lost its feathers.

To mark Lesage’s centenary, le19M invited the Maison d’art’s embroidery workshop to collaborate with the artist Aristide (Aristide Barraud). Together they created Murmuration, a monumental drawing depicting a swarm
of hundreds of embroidered starlings. Every winter, thousands of starlings migrate from one continent to another, creating perfectly synchronised ballets in the sky. The artist connects this natural phenomenon of symbiosis with the fragmentation of contemporary society.
Throughout 2024, the different sections
of embroidery that make up Murmuration journey from one city to another. At each stopover, the birds come to life thanks to the embroidery gestures of the audience, guided by the expert hands of the art craftspeople. After an initial stopover in Marseille in May, the starlings set off on a migration to Paris in June, then to Dakar in July before settling in Venice in September for Homo Faber (a day celebrating craftsmanship). Each embroidery stitch becomes an extra note in a collective and contemplative symphony, whose result is presented in the exhibition “Lesage. Hundred years of fashion and decoration” at la Galerie du 19M, until 5 January.
Lesage
This year, Lesage celebrates a century of exceptional expertise in embroidery and weaving, serving haute couture and fashion houses with the most prestigious clients in the decoration industry.
In 1924, Albert and Marie-Louise Lesage took over the workshop of the embroiderer Michonet. Founded in 1858, this workshop provided the first great names in the history of haute couture, including Charles Frederick Worth, Madame Paquin, or Madeleine Vionnet, whose assistant in charge of embroidery was none other than Marie-Louise Lesage. The inventor of new techniques (“vermicelli warp thread” or the shaded system that produces blended colours), Maison Lesage soon became renowned for its avant-garde designs.
In 1949, on the death of his father,
François Lesage, then aged 20, took
over the management of the Maison. He worked with some of the greatest fashion designers, including Cristóbal Balenciaga, Yves Saint Laurent and CHANEL. In 2002, Maison Lesage became part of CHANEL’s Métiers d’Art, and has continued to work independently with renowned fashion designers.
le19M and its Galerie
At the initiative of CHANEL, le19M is a
place of heritage and creation committed
to passing on the decoration and fashion Métiers d’art. Twelve Maisons and an embroidery school form a unique community of 700 craftspeople and experts serving the studios of the most prestigious fashion houses and interior design studios, as well as young talents. Set like a link between Paris and Aubervilliers, le19M is also home to the Galerie du 19M. This modular space stands up for the values of arts and crafts and showcases the emerging creative scene to everyone – schoolchildren, students, professionals, enthusiasts, families, amateurs or the simply curious. Its free, playful, multi-disciplinary programme includes exhibitions, hands-on workshops, lectures, as well as educational and cultural events

Lucie Lascaux and Simon Valabrègue are two fashion designers who graduated from HEAD - Geneva in 2024. Their collaboration has been developing over the past three years through a practice that engages processes analogous to artistic fields. This approach allows them to freely incorporate a wide range of disciplines, such as drawing, construction, furniture design, and music, as they explore the relationship between clothing, images, and the body.
ACCESSORY WORKSHOP:
WORKING WITH CARDBOARD
Lucie Lascaux and Simon Valabrègue offer a fashion accessory workshop using various techniques centered around wet cardboard. These techniques draw inspiration from architecture and the act of building, aiming to stay as true as possible to the material by working with its physical properties rather than trying to constrain it. Humble cardboard, rigid yet malleable, allows for freeform volume construction. This method is similar to draping (in fashion or sculpture), serving as a way to guide the material through simple, manual gestures.

Fashion: A weaver of connections
Fashion is a collective work. It creates and feeds on the most diverse links between professions, skills, expertise and knowledge of all kinds. These di<erent spheres merge and serve the purpose of ever-renewed creation. As such, a fashion collection, and how it is presented, links talents and communities.
10H30 – 12h
Creative communities
Fashion unifies the cultural and creative industries through the wide range of talents it brings together: design, arts and crafts, music, visual arts, set design, dance, film, etc. It brings together a wide range of talents, all of which contribute to a unique identity that can be seen worldwide. What are the driving forces behind these ecosystems
14h – 15h15
Ecological communities
Ecological communities assess the social and environmental responsibility issues
facing fashion brands and propose solutions to overcome them. They also initiate innovations that fuel creativity. What is the link between fashion design and the ecological imperative? What horizon do these
innovations sketch out?
15h30 – 16h45
International communities
Inherently, fashion is international, but it also draws on local characteristics. The result
is an architecture of communities and links on the scale of cities and territories, of the world and cultures that constitute a permanent breeding ground for creativity, exchange
and diversity. How does the creative vitality of the ecosystems and players that make
them up emerge and structure themselves?
