«PANORAMAS» École Camondo Méditerranée

For this eighth edition of the Design Parade Toulon festival, ésadtpm (Higher School of Fine Arts and Design Toulon Provence Méditerranée) is presenting the work of Natacha Namiache, a 2023 graduate in DNA (Licence) Design, at the school’s Gallery. This proposal allows us to highlight environmental issues that are representative of the direction we have decided to take for several years now.

In today’s context of overconsumption, my project aims to understand what textile waste is and how it can be reused, with a strong social dimension. Here I’m looking to question textile waste, which is almost always seen as an unusable residue, a loss. The idea is to find ways of changing this vision of the single use of textiles through an experimental approach in which the gesture, the material and the accident are all elements that meet, assemble and harmonise. It also means becoming aware of the very properties of a material that is destined to be thrown away. And, finally, how to transmit and share this vision, because I can’t conceive of design without this human dimension of exchange.
Three key points:
– A research project. Requalification of textiles and garments with a view to their application in use. I see this work as a laboratory and genuine personal research.
– A social project. The challenge is to pass on and share together.
The aim is to help people understand the potential of waste, and to encourage collective reflection across the generations.
– A project that can be replicated. I’m looking to work locally within the economic and sociocultural fabric of the towns of Toulon, Marseilles and Hyères.
But, ultimately, this is a project whose protocol can be applied in different places with similar contexts.
