Semiotics of Girlhood
When we think about the concept of girlhood, we are led to examine representations and images of young girls in order to understand what society accepts as such. My collection revolves around the semiotics of Western childhood. I am particularly interested in how these images can be reappropriated to adopt a feminist stance through craftsmanship.
The process of reclaiming female childhood takes place in the context of its marginalisation in patriarchal societies. In my collection, I offer my vision of a subversive form of girlhood through fashion, while helping to open it up as a creative attitude that more identities can adopt. I aspire to reinterpret girlhood as a producer of culture and offer a conceptual reflection on contemporary femininity.
