LES HEURES CHAUDES

In the warm hours, the sun is high in the sky and the sea is silent. The air seems thicker, the shadows shorter and the time longer; so, we go back home to protect ourselves.

Adjacent to the courtyard is a rectangular room where an indoor fountain flows. The trickle of water cools the space and its lapping covers the secrets shared in the privacy of the room. For a summer, it becomes the scene of new desires, new ways of living and being together.

How will we live when the temperatures are too high? Perhaps we will have to revive old rituals, invent new ones: sharing a scalding cup of tea to regulate the heat of our bodies, wetting a piece of embroidered fabric and leaving it in front of a half open window, or lounging on a sandstone floor beside rocks that would have kept the coolness of the night.
