The former bishop’s palace, located on the cours Lafayette near the heart of Toulon, has traversed all of the town’s history since the 18th century. In its current form, inherited from its last reconstruction in 1786, it has welcomed numerous institutions: from an episcopal palace, it became the headquarters for the Var department’s administration, a school, a library, and a museum. For several years now it welcomes the competition and exhibitions for Design Parade Toulon.
This summer, two designers and artists will present their works within. Matthieu Cossé, former student of l’Atelier de Sèvres, will exhibit his joyous palette upon numerous media (ceramic, paper, murals, etc.). His work is regularly exhibited at the villa Noailles for which he created monumental garden ceramics in collaboration with We Do Not Work Alone. As for Benoît Maire, he will exhibit a series of chairs and seats on the building’s ground-floor. This showcasing of contemporary design is a response to the rediscovery of the decorative arts from the period of the reconstruction of Toulon presented at the Galerie du Canon, in a chronological continuity which encompasses 70 years of creation.
The artist Alexandre Benjamin Navet will create a colourful fresco on the walls of the interior courtyard of the palace in a dialogue with the exhibitions.
