Programme

All events will take place at villa Noailles unless otherwise noted.

Tickets (visitors) and accreditation forms (professionals, students, press) are available online at villanoailles.com.

The Festival’s opening ceremony, Thursday, October 15, is free and open to the public.

The collaborative workshops organised by la Galerie du 19M are open to the public without reservation or additional fee, subject to availability.

★ The Fashion and Photography workshops organized by villa Noailles require advance booking and an additional fee.

★★Guided tours are free and require advance booking.

★★★ Two identical Fashion shows will be held on Friday, October 16, at 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. A “DÉFILÉ” ticket is required for admission. Free admission. Limited capacity. Online booking opens on October 7.

The Langouste snack bar at villa Noailles is open during Festival opening hours.

Why print, still?
While photographs now circulate mainly on screens and are consumed in a matter of seconds, many photographers still choose the book, the independent magazine, or self-publishing. Paper offers a different kind of time: that of sequence, narrative, and layout, but also the possibility of building one’s own story and giving a series a material, lasting existence. The book then becomes an object, but also an archive for the photographer.

This roundtable examines what publishing can offer photography in the age of social media, where images and photographers alike are constantly urged to expose themselves, and are instantly consumed, and often forgotten. How can commissioned work give rise to an authored body of work? How does a personal series find its form and narrative in a book? And, in the age of the instant image, why is it still necessary to make objects that ask to be looked at, bought, and shared?

Has reality become a fashion image?

From Corinne Day to Wolfgang Tillmans, by way of Peter Hujar, a generation of photographers brought the everyday, its margins, and its anti-heroes into the image. Their approach, close to the personal diary, often raw and unapologetic about its imperfections, stood in opposition to the “controlled perfection” of the fashion image. Thirty years later, this aesthetic of lived experience has become one of luxury’s preferred languages. The intimate now fronts campaigns, spontaneity is staged, and the author’s signature becomes a brand value.

What remains of the documentary gesture once it has been absorbed by the industry? Where does the line now fall between an author’s gaze and the manufacture of a fashion image? And ultimately, what makes an image fashion: the clothing, the client, or the desire it provokes?
