The dining room of the villa Noailles, like a fragile memory, becomes two
clearings surrounded by brambles.
The exhibition took root at the edge of the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont, where
seeds and debris escape beyond the reach of gardeners. Bramble grows
there in abundance, both free and neglected. Mostly known as a weed, it is
nonetheless a pioneer species and bears the sacred symbol of the burning
bush. What can this plant tell us about ourselves and our relationship with the
landscape?
Each object presented is an exploration of the bramble through craft and
materials. It is burnt, cast, woven, cut, submerged, stamped, assembled,
repaired. This reflects not only the destructive relationship we can have
towards our environment and ourselves, but also a more poetic and less
anthropocentric relationship that accepts the complexity and mysteries
of the physical world.
