My project is rooted in two often contradictory fields: industry and craft. From the first, I drew inspiration from the form. The metal section usually used in the structure of buildings is here reproduced in wood and then arranged to form a bench filled with foam cubes. A pendant light floats above the seat, made of Plexiglas that looks as if it has been extruded from the rigid blocks on the floor.
The two volumes echo each other, defining a living space that plays on the contrast between raw and sophisticated, solid and delicate, heavy and light, opaque and translucent.
Through this dialogue between industrial form and traditional craftsmanship, I’m suggesting that we take back control of the production process. The craftsmen of yesteryear are regaining the upper hand after being gradually ousted by machines.
