Mirage Miroir
In the villages of Puglia, where Luca Rizzo comes from, large amphorae are omnipresent, whether they take pride of place at the entrance to the house or serve as a larder inside. As storytellers, they symbolise life, the warmth of home and sharing. Over time, these receptacles have lost their primary function and become simple decorative objects. With Mirage Miroir, the artist seeks to transcend their ornamental function, inviting us to consider them as central figures in an intimate narrative. Drawing on his childhood memories and inspiration from his Italian origins, he uses design as a tool in the service of memory, and seeks to breathe a spirit into each of his pieces.
The amphorae are transformed into veritable creatures: entities in their own right, with their own identity and personality. They animate and inhabit the space, creating their own scenography. The amphorae are made of different materials – ceramics and textiles – and now take on the appearance of chimerical characters, revealing stories that combine mythology with the power of contemporary design.
Luca Rizzo’s work is based on a desire to promote traditional craftsmanship and to return to slow, conscious production, far removed from overproduction. Each piece is unique and restores the value of manufactured craftsmanship as a work of art. He uses some of the oldest techniques, such as ceramics, and combines them with more modern materials such as feathers and synthetic textiles, creating a narrative that oscillates between the familiar and the strange.
