PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION
The Grand Jury Prize for Photography 7L
Since the 2023 edition, 7L has supported the winner of the Grand Jury Prize for Photography 7L with:
- The production of a book co-published by Éditions 7L, Atelier EXB, and Villa Noailles.
- A book launch event, including an exhibition during Paris Photo at 7L.
The winner of the Grand Jury Prize for Photography 7L is also awarded an exhibition of their work at Villa Noailles during the following year’s festival.
Founded in 1999 by Karl Lagerfeld in Paris, 7L takes its name from its address: 7, rue de Lille, in the 7th arrondissement.
“I love this place so much that it is part of me,” said the legendary designer, an insatiable seeker of beauty and knowledge.
Acquired in 2021 by CHANEL, 7L celebrates its founder’s deep passion for books and photography. It brings together:
- A bookshop dedicated to new releases in the visual arts.
- A cultural programme, Correspondances, inspired by Karl Lagerfeld’s personal library.
- Éditions 7L, an independent publishing house.
Launched in 2001 by Karl Lagerfeld, Éditions 7L focused on photography and fashion, reissuing rare books and publishing works that reflected his creative universe. Relaunched in 2023 to mark Villa Noailles’ centenary, the publishing house revived with the reissue of La Chambre des écureuils, a collection of writings by Marie-Laure de Noailles, in collaboration with Seghers. This partnership continues in 2024 with two literary essays and in 2025 with a collection of her poetry.
The Éditions 7L catalogue also includes:
- Triptyque by Ronan Bouroullec, featuring three exhibitions from Design Parade Toulon & Hyères 2023.
- Xavier Veilhan / CHANEL Haute Couture Shows, co-published with Flammarion.
- Aujourd’hui by Thaddé Comar, the first book in the Grand Jury Prize for Photography 7L collection, co-published with Atelier EXB.
- A book on Arhant Shrestha, winner of the 2024 edition, set to be the second in this collection.
As part of its commitment, CHANEL awards the Grand Jury Prize for Photography 7L winner a grant of 20,000 euros.
